Summertime is approaching and it's always fun to try new activities and experiences — but it's not always easy to find things that your four legged friend can join in on. That's why we've decided to compile a list of 10 fun things that you can do with your dog this Spring or Summer!
1. Water Activities
Most dogs love going for a swim! From oceans to lakes to maybe a dog friendly local pool, it's always enjoyable to visit bodies of water to go for a dip. They might even enjoy a boat ride as well! Too far from a beach? No problem, inflatable pools are a great alternative. A couple margaritas and your best friend chilling in the sun and it's almost like you're there. If you want to get really fancy you can make a dog wading pool like this one.
2. Hiking
Another way to bond with your pup is to get outside and experience the beauty at one of the 58 national parks in the US. Need something more simple? Find your nearest hiking trail and head out!
3. Happy Hour
Happy hour doesn’t have to be exclusive to your human friends. While dogs (obviously) can’t have alcohol, there are some pretty tasty mocktail recipes out there for pups to try. Feel like getting out? Find a local dog-friendly brewery or restaurant here.
4. Gardening
Gardening is a great way for you and your pup to get outside together. It's also the perfect time to teach your dog boundaries and train them to respect the plants living in your yard. Check out this link on how to create a sensory garden for your dog.
Make sure you're aware of dog safe plants before getting started — the ASPCA has a great resource guide online here.
5. Popsicles
Not into sharing your favorite frozen treat with your dog? Try making some dog-friendly popsicles. They're a great treat for those hot summer days and your pup is sure to love them!
6. Picnic
Pack a lunch to-go, water, a blanket and your dog's favorite chew toy for a quiet little picnic in the park. Having a picnic is a great way to get some fresh air and R & R with your fur baby. Don't forget the dog-friendly fruits and veggies!
7. Play Your Favorite Sport
Your dog may not be able to follow the rules but they will be a fun teammate nonetheless.
Playing fetch or your favorite sport with your dog is a creative way to get exercise while bonding.
8. Painting
Another fun activity to do with your fur baby is to paint! Here's a quick how-to for inspiration and tips.
9. Outdoor Movie Night
Instead of a night in, how bout' a night out! Sitting under the stars with your furry best friend and a bowl of popcorn is picture perfect moment that you'll cherish forever. Here's how to watch a movie in your backyard.
